Academic essays have always been really tricky to write. The hardest part of all is the introduction or start of the essay. This is usually the hardest part since it dictates whether the reader will read the essay or avoid it. The introduction should be catchy and should capture the attention of the reader. It should make the reader want to read more and feel relaxed and satisfied as he or she reads the essay. In most cases we spend most of our time thinking on how to begin writing but once we break through that first step the story flows continuously. The first step is usually the hardest to take but also the most important since it will determine if you will walk crawl or run. How to begin writing an essay
There are some five simple steps that you can follow to guide you on how to start your essay. The steps are:
- Understand what you are writing about. If it is an assignment carefully read it and make sure that it is clear what the teacher wants you to write about. Take keen on the instructions.
- Research and learn the different type of essays available. There are about five types of essays available. Knowing the different type of essays available gives you a clue on the type of essay your lecturer requires you to write.
- Think about the reader or audience. Knowing the audience gives you a guideline on how to phrase the content off the essay. For example if you are writing for the lecturer or any other people who have knowledge in the field you can be able to use complex vocabulary as opposed to the case that they were new individuals.
- Know the purpose of writing. What is the main reason for writing the essay? Is it for entertainment, informative, define or any other purpose. Knowing your goal makes it much easier to start the introduction.
- Manage the tone. The essay should talk to the reader and not shout at him or her. Ensure that the essay flows and does not confuse the reader. Make sure the tone is professional and informative. Try as much as possible to sound authoritative.
